Azerbaijan became the first post-Soviet country that joined the European Convention for Protection of Pet Animals. On October 22, 2003 the Convention was signed by Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe.

Homeless Animals Day celebrated in Georgia
On Saturday, August 16, animal rights activists all around the world celebrated the National (already international) Homeless Animals' Day. This day was conceived by International Society for Animal Rights (www.isaronline.org) in 1992 magnify the significance of stray overpopulation problem and provide a solution to end the killing: spaying and neutering.

Tbilisi Sakrebulo Adopts Rules for the Maintenance of Dogs and Cats
GEA news agency. 9 November 2001 | The Sakrebulo (elected council) of Tbilisi adopted rules for the maintenance of dogs, cats, and predator animals. According to the rules, dogs shall be kept within an isolated territory, residents of communal buildings may keep only one dog or cat per person, dogs may be walked in yards or streets only on a short leash and in control.
